Willow Class Weekly Newsletter 23.2.26

The weeks seem to be flying by, and it has been another exciting and productive week in our classroom!

This week in English, we began by analysing a diary entries based on Cameron, a character from our class book. The children explored how the author developed Cameron's character, focusing on key details and themes. Our main grammar focus was cohesive devices, and the class demonstrated a great understanding of how to use these devices to link ideas and maintain flow in writing. The children then practiced these skills by writing their own versions of the diary entries, which were impressive!

In Mathematics, we began our Decimals unit. We started with rounding decimals and then moved on to adding decimals. The children showed a strong grasp of these concepts and were able to apply them to solve problems with confidence. We’ll continue building on these skills next week.

In Science, we are diving into the fascinating world of light this term. Last lesson, the children learned how submarines use periscopes to see both in and above the water. To put this knowledge to the test, we made our very own periscopes using cereal boxes and mirrors! The hands-on activity was a huge hit, and it was wonderful to see the children experimenting with their creations and understanding how periscopes work in real life.

Thank you so much to all the parents who have already submitted their Parents’ Evening slips. If you haven’t done so yet, please ensure yours is handed in as soon as possible to guarantee your preferred time slot.

Well done to this week’s certificate winner Queenie.

Have a lovely weekend,

Miss Bliss and Mr Jones
