Chestnut Newsletter 16.1.26

Welcome back to everyone! It has been great to get back into a routine this week. We are nearly half way through the school year but have so much left to pack in!

This week the children have enjoyed The Gruffalo by Julia Donaldson. It is a very popular book and they all thought they knew the story but we delved deeper about how the mouse tricked the animals and then the Gruffalo. We prepared to write setting descriptions by going for a virtual walk through some woods. We listened to the sounds and imagined what we would be able to smell and touch.

In maths, we are continuing to Add and Subtract within 20. They have been learning to subtract by counting back on a number line. Most children can now follow this method. Please support your child to count in 2s, 5s and 10s.

On Monday 2nd February we will be making monsters using recycled materials.

Please start to collect bits and pieces which can be used in class.

·      cardboard tubes

·      shoe boxes (nothing bigger!)

·      foil

·      clean yoghurt pots

·      clean butter tubs

Items can be brought into school in a bag which is clearly named.

Have a fabulous weekend,
