Oaks Newsletter - 08.12.25

We’ve had a busy and creative week in Year 5! Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to:

❄️ Winter Poetry – Finishing Touches

This week, the children put the final touches on their winter poetry. They have worked hard to write vivid imagery, thoughtful vocabulary choices and expressive figurative language. We explored features of a sonnet. We look forward to sharing a selection with you soon!

🔧 Science – Researching Mechanisms

In Science, we continued our topic on forces and mechanisms. The children learnt about levers, pulleys, gears and how these simple mechanisms help make work easier. They enjoyed using I-pads to research this.

🎵 Music – ‘Classroom Jazz’ Performances

A highlight of our week was performing our ‘Classroom Jazz’ pieces using the glockenspiels. The children have been exploring rhythm and improvisation. They enjoyed putting these skills together in their mini-performances in class.

➗ Maths – Squared and Cubed Numbers

In Maths, we have been focusing on squared and cubed numbers. The children learned what it means to square and cube a number and explored patterns within number sequences.

🎄 Christmas Carol Service – We Are So Proud!

We also spent time rehearsing our Christmas carol performance on Thursday. The children sang beautifully and we are so proud of every one of them.
