Chestnut Newsletter 5.9.25

A huge welcome to Chestnut Class! We have had a fantastic three days together, all the children are getting used to the new routines. Well done!

So far we have pretended to be giants and used our imaginations to draw and write about our own giant. We have chosen what they look like and how they act - are they kind, scary, hairy, scruffy, smart, strong...? Everyone had brilliant ideas to share.

In maths we have begun to explore Place Value within 10 including numbers in words too. They will learn to count on and back within 10 and to instantly know one more or one less than a number. Please help your child by asking them to count objects around the home - is it easier to count objects when they are randomly arranged or when they are in a line? How would they count pictures of objects accurately?

We have started the year by learning to recognise and name our feelings. There is an area in the classroom where children can go to help them with this. As a school, we are using 'Zones of Regulation'. The children will learn which colour they are feeling and which strategies to use.

Children will need to come to school in their P.E. kit on Mondays and Tuesdays.

Plain white t-shirt unbranded from a supplier of your choice.

Black shorts or Joggers (no bright colours)

• During the colder weather when it is not suitable to just wear a plain white t-shirt for PE, children can wear their Crowmoor Primary navy-blue sweater or cardigan (no branded jumpers or hoodies for PE)

• Trainers (suitable for physical activity)

• Socks (Black. Navy, Grey or White)

Please make sure that your child has their plastic book bag and reading books in school everyday. We will begin everyday with individual reading, group reading practice sessions before lunch and more individual reading in the afternoon. It is really important their books are in school for these sessions.

The children have also been invited to take home a 'Reading for Pleasure' book which they can share with you at home, they are not expected to be able to read these books independently - enjoy them together!

The class email address is chestnut@crowmoorschool.co.uk We would love to hear from you or to see photos of anything your child has made or achieved at home.

If you have an urgent message, please contact the school office admin@cromwoorschool.co.uk as usual.

Thank you for your support, I hope you have a fab weekend.

Mrs Dowell, Miss Nicholas and Mr Jones.
