Chestnut Newsletter 2.5.25

Updated: May 5

Welcome back after the Easter break! We have had a great start to the summer term.

This week our book focus has been 'Amazing Grace' by Mary Hoffman. A little girl is told that she cannot be Peter Pan in the school play because she is a girl and because she is black. It is an inspiring story to challenge stereotyping and encourage children that they can be what ever they want to be if the are determined!

We are close to completing our learning on multiplication and division. The children are becoming more confident counting in 2s, 5s and 10s. All can recognise when groups are equal and not equal. Most are able to add equal groups and make equal groups by sharing.

Sadly, Miss Skelhon will be leaving us today as she has come to the end of her student placement. She has been a valued member of the team and will be missed by all. We wish her well in the future.

It is now beginning to become very warm in the classroom even with windows open and blinds closed. It is really important that all the children have a fresh water bottle each day. They can refill this throughout the day if needed.

Please apply sun cream before the start of the day.

Information about the Year 1 Phonics Screening Check can be found here:

If your child starts to talk about 'alien' words, please do not worry!

Have a fab Bank Holiday weekend and we look forward to seeing the children back on Tuesday.
