Almost at the end of our first half term in Year 1!
All the children have adjusted to Year 1 so well. They are used to the routines and higher expectations of the Year 1 curriculum, well done!
This week we have shared 'Dinosaurs in the Supermarket' by Timothy Knapman. I have encouraged the children to look closely for the dinosaurs next time they go to the supermarket, you never know what is around the corner. They have laughed out loud at this book and thoroughly enjoyed joining in with the rhyming.

We have used adjectives to write 'Who am I?' poems about ourselves and then challenged the class to play guess who!
In maths we have continued to add two numbers within 10 and to learn the bonds of numbers to 10. The children are getting used to using the 'plus' + symbol in their number sentences.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to come along to Parent's Evening. I hope you enjoyed seeing more of the school, your child's classroom and their books.
Please continue to support your child with their reading; little and often is best to develop good reading habits and fluency.
How to encourage reading habits
Read together regularly:
Aim for daily reading, even if it's just for a short time, to build a routine.
Let them choose:
Allowing children to select their own books makes reading more engaging and gives them a sense of ownership.
Create a cosy reading space:
Designate a comfortable and inviting area with books to encourage independent reading.
Make it a shared experience:
Participate in shared reading activities, like bedtime stories or library visits, which are crucial for early development.
Connect with their interests:
Use a child's personal interests to suggest books that will capture their imagination.
Expand vocabulary:
Read a wide variety of books and use new words in conversation to help them build vocabulary skills.
Have a great weekend,
Mrs Dowell, Miss Nicholas and Mr Jones.
