Oak Newsletter - 20.3.26

This week in Maths, we have been focusing on perimeter and area. The children have been learning how to measure and calculate the perimeter of different shapes, as well as finding the area by counting squares and using simple formulae. They have shown great enthusiasm when applying these skills to real-life problems.

In English, we have been developing our descriptive writing through character descriptions. The children have explored how to create vivid and engaging characters by using expanded noun phrases, powerful adjectives, and figurative language. It has been wonderful to see their creativity shine through in their writing.

In Art, the class has been inspired by the work of Jean-Michel Basquiat. The children have explored his bold, expressive style and created their own artwork using similar techniques, including strong lines, symbols, and vibrant colours. Their pieces are full of energy and individuality.

In PE, we have been developing our tennis skills, with a focus on underarm serves and backhand shots. The children have been working on control, coordination, and accuracy, and are showing increasing confidence in their gameplay.

In Music, the children have been composing and improvising using themes from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. They have enjoyed experimenting with rhythm and melody, creating their own musical ideas inspired by this well-known piece.

A reminder that it is Year 5's Online Safety Inspire Workshop on Thursday 26th March. We would love to see as many of you there as possible to explore this important topic with your child!

Thank you, as always, for your continued support. If you have any questions about your child’s learning, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
