We have had another busy and exciting week in Year 5! Here's a look at what we have been learning.

➗ Maths

This week in Maths, we have been learning how to multiply numbers by 10, 100 and 1,000. We have focused on using our place value knowledge to understand how digits change position when multiplying by powers of ten. The children have worked hard to explain their reasoning and solve a range of problems.

📚 Reading

In Reading, we have started our new class text about Anne Frank. We have explored who Anne Frank was and begun to learn about the historical events that shaped her life. The children have shown great curiosity and have already begun making thoughtful connections with the text.

✍️ Writing

In Writing, we have begun our new unit on biographies. We have explored the key features of biographies and discussed how they are organised. Over the coming weeks, the children will be researching and writing biographies of their own about Anne Frank.

🌍 Geography

In Geography, we have started our new topic on Europe. We have been locating countries and major cities on maps and learning about the continent's different regions. We are excited to continue exploring Europe in more detail.

🪖 History

This week, we launched our History topic on World War II. The children have begun learning about when the war took place and some of the key events that led to its outbreak. We look forward to finding out more about how the war impacted people both at home and abroad.

😊 Looking Ahead

The children have made a fantastic start to all of our new topics and have shown enthusiasm and resilience in their learning. We are looking forward to another exciting week next week.

🏊 Swimming Reminder

We have just three swimming sessions remaining this term. Our final swimming dates are:

  • 13th November

  • 20th November

  • 27th November (our last swimming session)

Please ensure your child brings their swimming kit on these dates!

Have a lovely weekend!

Miss Andrew
