Chestnut Newsletter 6.11.26
It was fantastic to see all the children back after their half term break! They have all settled quickly back into their routines and are engaged with their learning.
This week we have shared one of my favourite picture books, 'That Rabbit belongs to Emily Brown' by Cressida Cowell who also wrote the 'How to Train your Dragon' books. We have written a character description about Emily. The children have thought hard about her personality by using the information from the story.

In maths, we began solving subtraction problems by crossing out, and now we're transitioning to using a number line by jumping backwards. I'm impressed with how well the children have grasped the method, and with a bit more practice, they should gain confidence. I keep reminding them that "they can do hard things!"

In geography, we utilized atlases, a globe, and maps to find the United Kingdom on a world map. The children enjoyed having the opportunity to explore the maps and identify various features.
The children will be learning more ways to make sounds in phonics:
i makes a different sound in 'chip' than in 'kind'
a makes a different sound in 'chat' than in 'bacon'
o makes a different sound in 'chop' than in 'most'
e makes a different sound in 'hen' than in 'me'
It can be difficult but I keep telling them that "they can do hard things!"
Please keep reading a little and often. They do not need to read the whole book in one night, just a page or two if ideal to build good reading habits.
Thank you for supporting your child to be the very best they can be!
Mrs Dowell, Mrs Savory and Miss Mountcastle.
