What a fantastic start to your year in Chestnut Class! We were all a bit nervous this morning, however, I was really impressed with how they have settled in and how they are getting used to the new routines and increased independence - well done!

We have already started out maths learning about Place Value within 10. The pupils will be learning different ways to build all the numbers up to 10 and to know one less and one more.

After lots of discussion about our favourite chocolate bar on Thursday, we have designed our own chocolate bar and written about what it looks and tastes like. All the children tried their best and were really excited to show their writing.

Your child has come home with a yellow Reading Record and a Phonics book which they should be able to read with some support. Please enter any reading done at home in their Reading Record. They are not expected to read the whole book, just a couple of pages is fine. Little and often builds fluency and creates good reading habits. They will also have come home with a 'free choice' book from our library which they may not be able to read but liked to look of! Please enjoy sharing this book with your child. They will be encouraged to change this book at least weekly. Reading bags need to be in school EVERY day.

P.E. days are Monday and Tuesday. Please remember that P.E. kit is a plain white t-shirt with navy joggers or shorts and their SCHOOL cardigan or jumper. Hoodies and other colours are not allowed

Black plimsolls or trainers should be worn. Ear rings need to be removed or a waiver signed from the office.

I'm really looking forward to a fantastic year with your children. It's a big change from Reception but one that they are ready for! If you have any questions or just want to say 'Hi', please feel free to catch me at the end of the day.

Have a fab weekend,

Mrs Dowell, Mrs Savory and Mr Jones.
