Crowmoor Teacher

Welcome to Beech Class!

Starting school has been a huge change for all the children, with new adults, new peers, a new setting and new expectations but I am very proud of how well they have settled in class and are learning the new rules and routines. Especially on Wednesday when they sat so patiently during our whole school assembly listening to our prospective Head Boy's and Head Girl's as they delivered their speeches.

We have spent the last couple of weeks getting to know each other and the children have enjoyed exploring their indoor and outdoor classrooms. Hopefully you will have seen some things on Tapestry, but if you are having any problems accessing this please let me know.

This week we started our "All About Me" topic and have been talking about what makes me a me! They have created some fantastic self portraits through drawing and craft and we have been finding out all about our likes and dislikes and what we have in common with others in class.

We started our Phonics sessions this week and so far have learnt the sounds s, a, t, p and have been doing lots of work on oral blending where we say the individual sounds in a word then 'blend' them together to say the word (e.g. saying d-o-g........dog.) The more practice the children get with developing this skill, the easier they will find blending sounds independently to read words later.

We also started Drawing Club, using the book The Colour Monster Goes to School for inspiration.

In Maths we have been matching and sorting objects, introducing the concept of 'not' when sorting - e.g. these are blue, these are NOT blue to emphasise that any colour can go in the second set, as long as it is not what is in the first one. We will continue working on this next week as we start learning to compare objects.

We are planning to start up our Brilliant Brushers programme next week so please can you ensure your child's permission from (bright green) is returned by Monday if not already so they can all participate together? Thank you.

Please look out for our Curriculum Overview giving an overview of what we will be learning this term through our topics of 'All About Me' and 'Celebrations'.
