Community Awareness

Dear Parents and Carers,

We are writing to make you aware of ongoing concerns regarding areas within the local community where groups of older children and young people have been gathering. These locations, including Upton Lane Park (Meccy) and Monkmoor Recreation Ground (Rec), along with other local parks and public spaces within the Shrewsbury Area, have been linked to incidents involving anti-social behaviour and concerns around exposure to alcohol, drugs, and vaping.

At Crowmoor Primary School, the safeguarding and wellbeing of our children remains our highest priority. We recognise that children can be vulnerable in community settings, particularly where there is exposure to inappropriate behaviour or peer influence from older young people. This can include risks associated with substance misuse and wider anti-social behaviour.

With this in mind, we will be working with pupils over the coming weeks through age-appropriate sessions focusing on community safety, understanding risk, personal safety, and how to seek help or report concerns to trusted adults.

Our Safeguarding Team continues to work closely with the Local Authority, local schools, Police and Community Support Officers (PCSOs) to help identify and respond to areas of concern and to ensure that children are kept safe both in and out of school.

We would also like to ask for your continued support. If you are aware of or witness any concerns within the community that may place children or young people at risk, please report these to the police by calling 101, or 999 in an emergency or if there is an immediate risk to life.

If you have any concerns regarding the safety or wellbeing of a child or would like guidance on how to talk to your child about these issues, please do not hesitate to contact the school and speak to a member of our Safeguarding Team.

Thank you for your continued support and cooperation.

Kind Regards

Mr T Taylor

Family Liaison Officer
