Beech Weekly Newsletter 20.6.25

What a hot week this has been! I can barely believe there are only four weeks left of this term and this academic year!

We have had great fun this week reading the book "You Can't Take an Elephant on Holiday". It really ignited the children's imaginations thinking about what other silly things you can't do with different creatures and it inspired some great pictures and independent writing in Drawing Club.

In phonics we have continued to work on consolidating their knowledge of Phase 3 digraphs and reading them in words. It is really important that the children read as much as possible to improve their fluency. Huge well done to Poppy and Ivy who both had 5 or more reads at home recorded in their reading records this week and earned a Crowmoor coin. Their reading for pleasure books can be changed at any time, but their phonically decodable books are only changed after the third recorded read in their reading records so please ensure if they read to you, this is recorded. Just 5-10 minutes a day can make all the difference to increasing their confidence and improving their fluency.

In Maths this week we have revisited repeating patterns, challenging the children to make more complex patterns and creating patterns for them to identify the repeating part. Although many found this quite tricky to start, by the end of the week everybody was much more confident and some children were creating their own number patterns rather than just using colour or shape.

The children have loved role playing in our Ice Cream Parlour this week, and even built their own ice cream van in the outdoor area with crates and tyres. It's been wonderful to watch them work together to develop it, taking turns and sharing ideas.

Although the forecast is slightly cooler for this next week, it is still very warm and it is important children have suncream applied before school and bring water bottles with them. These can be refilled throughout the day if needed.

On Monday (23rd) we will be doing PE as we are in the hall for the morning due to the new reception Stay and Play session being in class. Children should come to school wearing their PE kits that day and we will still do PE on Friday as normal too.

Have a lovely weekend!
