Dear Parents and Carers,
We’ve had another busy and exciting week in Year 5, filled with fantastic learning across the curriculum.
Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve been up to:
📘 Maths
This week in Maths, we have been learning about decimals. The children have been exploring place value within decimals, understanding tenths and hundredths, and making connections between fractions and decimals. We’ve also been practising comparing and ordering decimals, as well as representing them on number lines. The class has shown great determination when tackling some tricky reasoning questions!
✏️ English
In English, we have begun writing our space-themed setting descriptions. The children have been using:
Expanded noun phrases to add detail and description
Sentence openers to create variety and interest
Dialogue to bring their scenes to life
We’ve been focusing on creating vivid imagery to help the reader clearly imagine distant planets, mysterious spacecraft, and vast galaxies. The creativity on display has been truly impressive!
🏰 History
In History, we have been learning about Medieval life. The children explored what daily life was like for different groups of people, including peasants, knights, and nobles. We discussed homes, jobs, food, and the importance of castles and villages during this period. The class asked thoughtful questions and made excellent comparisons with modern life.
🎨 Art
In Art, we created geometric designs inspired by the famous architect Frank Lloyd Wright. We explored how he used bold shapes and strong patterns in his work. The children carefully planned and drew their own geometric compositions, thinking about symmetry, repetition, and line. The results are striking and demonstrate wonderful attention to detail!
We are very proud of the hard work and enthusiasm Year 5 have shown this week.
