What a great week we have had! All the children are really settled and are starting to get into the swing of things in Year 1. Their independent writing is improving in each lesson and their handwriting is developing with lots of reminders about correct letter formation. The PDF below will help to explain the letter families.
In English this week, we have shared the book 'Dinosaurs love Underpants' by Clare Freedman and Ben Cort. The children have enjoyed retelling the story in their own words.

In maths we have been spending a lot of time comparing numbers using 'greater than' > and 'less than' < symbols. It is a tricky concept but with lots of practice and using practical resources we are getting there! Next, children will be learning to order random numbers within ten from 'smallest to greatest' and then 'greatest to smallest'.
Our geography lessons are focussing on the local area. All the children really enjoyed looking at maps of Shrewsbury and were excited to bring them home - I hope you enjoyed sharing them and pointing out local features.
